Quirky old Felixstowe is the perfect place for legal professional GJ

Legal professional GJ, 61, recently purchased a two-bedroom house from The Masefield range at Laureate Fields in Old Felixstowe.

GJ had always lived in joint homes, splitting her time between various work locations and being around family and friends. She liked the idea of a hassle-free new build but struggled to find one in Suffolk that she liked.

“My husband and I always divided our time between two homes, our flat in Finchley and the family home in Essex,” said GJ.

“But when my husband died suddenly and unexpectedly, I found myself spending much less time at our house in Essex. I work at the courts in London, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Essex and Suffolk, and my stepson and his family live in Bungay in Suffolk – therefore Old Felixstowe made perfect sense.

“What drew me to a new build was the ability to lock the door and go without having to worry about any of the problems that come with an older house. Bizarrely, Laureate Fields was the only decent new build I found in Suffolk. It’s contemporary and finished to an extremely high spec. The safety features are very good too. I also like that the development doesn’t all look the same. There is lots of variety with different house styles and brick finishes.”

GJ was looking for a home in Suffolk, but she didn’t know much about Old Felixstowe until she came across Laureate Fields.

“It’s a fantastic area. It’s just so quirky and unusual. It’s got a variety of individually owned shops, including a farm butchers, an upscaling gift shop, and a combined tearoom and antiques centre. You also have an amazing artisanal bakery and two interior decorator shops in Felixstowe town centre. A high point has been the fish and chips at the ferry and I’m looking forward to discovering the pubs dotted around the surrounding countryside. On top of that Laureate Fields is adjacent to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. I can drive to a local beauty spot, get a tea or coffee, chat to local people and then be back in my lovely clean new house.”

The Masefield is a 767sqft two-bedroom house featuring two double bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor with a spacious open-plan kitchen/living/dining room covering the majority of the ground floor. There is also a W/C conveniently tucked away next to the entrance and French doors leading to the garden.

High quality fixtures and fittings include engineered oak flooring across the open plan living space on the ground floor, oak veneered doors with stylish chrome handles, and brushed steel sockets and light switches.

The property benefits from contemporary German-engineered designer kitchens featuring a full-range of integrated appliances including a stainless-steel oven, 4-zone ceramic hob, fridge-freezer and multi-function dishwasher. The bathroom is fitted with high quality ceramic sanitaryware, a steel bath with shower mixer, and finished with porcelain wall tiles and a feature wall.

The development is situated next to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that stretches north from the sea along the banks of the River Deben. Residents can enjoy picturesque country rambles or leisurely walks to Felixstowe Ferry, with its clapboard cottages, houseboats and ancient fishermen’s inn.

Remaining two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom houses at Laureate Fields start from £225,000.
